Global superstars, BTS, will undertake their mandatory military service in South Korea, the group's representatives said Monday, confirming a move that was long dreaded by their army of fans.
All seven members of the group will fulfill their requirement to serve and not seek any further delays or special exemptions, BigHit Music said in a statement.
It is thought that the oldest member Jin will be the first to serve, with the stars to reconvene as a group again after fulfilling their service commitment around 2025.
Under South Korean law, all able-bodied men are expected to serve in the military. But the law also allows for special exemptions to be made for some, including athletes, musicians, and others who enhance the country's prestige.

In a statement issued by BigHit Music, they said the K-pop stars were "honored to serve" their country.
The oldest member of the group, Jin, is expected to start the process to join the military as soon as the schedule for his solo release ends at the end of October.
The remaining member of the world-renowned K-Pop group hope to begin their military service according to their own individual plans.
BTS members announced a break from the group to pursue solo projects in June, with many then raising questions about their future together.
BTS, also known as the Bangtan Boys, is a South Korean boy band formed in 2010 and debuting in 2013 under BigHit Entertainment.
