Johnny Depp's defamation trial against his ex-wife Amber Heard is beginning proceedings today at Fairfax County Circuit Court in Virginia.
Depp previously lost a libel case two years ago in the U.K against Rupert Murdoch’s The Sun tabloid , but this time he will be going directly against his ex-wife. According to InsideNova is suing Heard for $50 million due to her claiming he physically and emotionally abused her in a Washington Post op-ed she wrote.
Depp has claimed that the op-ed has damaged his career and tarnished his reputation. This can be evidenced in the fact that only days after the op-ed had been released, Depp was dropped from both the 'Pirates of the Caribbean 'Fantastic Beasts and where to find them' franchises respectively .
According to Deadline, celebrities Paul Bettany, James Franco Elon Musk and Ellen Barkin as well as Disney and Warner Bros representatives will be providing virtual testimonies.
The trial that is expected to run until May will have jurors in order to assess each side's credibility.
