Hot Chip set to drop new album 'Freakout/Release'

Hot Chip are back and have announced a new album.

Originally forming way back in 2000, they haven't released any new music since 2019.

The synthpop band - which consists of Alexis Taylor, Joe Goddard, Al Doyle, Owen Clarke, and Felix Martin - are returning with 'Freakout/Release'. It's due to land in August.

Co-founder Joe Goddard said: "We were living through a period where it was very easy to feel like people were losing control of their lives in different ways. There’s a darkness that runs through a lot of those tracks."

Their eighth studio album 'Freakout/Release' features some exciting new collaborations from Belgian electronic band Soulwax. Rapper Cadence Weapon and the London-based DJ and musician Lou Hayte will also feature.

In the meantime, the band has dropped the first single 'Down' from the album yesterday (Tuesday), along with a music video directed by Douglas Hart and Steve Mackey.

Hot Chip will perform a quartet of shows at London’s O2 Academy Brixton in September in support of their new album.
