So after the crazy scenes at the Oscars where La La Land was announced as the winner of Best Picture instead of Moonlight which had actually won, we take a look at some other moments where the wrong winner was announced. In case you missed it, here's the mortifying moment it was realised that something wasn't quite right.
Terry Wogan & The UK Eurovision Final
Terry Wogan was the voice of Eurovision for the BBC for many years but in 2007, he was behind a major blunder when he announced the wrong winner. The UK selection was one of the biggest in years with famous faces like Atomic Kitten's Liz McLarnon, Brian Harvey, Big Brovaz and Justin Hawkins all competing however it was Welsh singer Cyndi that Wogan announced as the winner when it was in fact pop band Scooch who had been selected to represent the UK in Finland where they came second last.
Steve Harvey at Miss Universe
In the age of the meme, the internet truly pounced on Steve Harvey after he announced Columbia as the winner of Miss Universe in 2015 instead of the Philippines. The Columbia entrant had the crown on her head for a full 4 minutes before the mistake was corrected. The awkward exchanging of the crown towards the end is probably one of the most cringe-worthy moments in TV history.
Sarah Murdoch announces the wrong Australia's Next Top Model Winner
Back in 2010, Sarah Murdoch, the host of Australia's Next Top Model, announced Kelsey Martinovich as the winner. HOWEVER, Sarah gets corrected through her earpiece and announces that Amanda Ware is the actual winner. As a result of the mix-up, the TV network gave Kelsey €25,000 and a trip to New York as a runner-up prize.
Alan Thicke at Mrs World in 2006
Alan Thicke, the Canadian actor, game show host and father of Robin Thicke, was hosting the Mrs World competition in 2006 when this major mess up occurred. The way he announced the winner was seemingly to blame as he said Mrs Russia afterwards however they go on to actually crown Costa Rica. He even says Russia AGAIN as Costa Rica celebrates. The backstage footage catches how awkward the whole thing is.
