Lenny Henry has been awarded a fellowship of the Royal Television Society and was also presented with the Judges' Award for his work on diversity.
The comedian and actor said: "I'm truly hopeful that this is a pan-industry acknowledgement that diversity must be at the heart of our industry now and most importantly in the future."
Best actress and actor went to Suranne Jones for Doctor Foster and Sir Anthony Hopkins for The Dresser.
Other winners included the comedy Catastrophe, Ant and Dec and Emmerdale.
