Former X Factor contestant Christopher Maloney is riding high in the Japanese charts - with his debut single from 2013!
He gained fame overnight in Japan when his 2012 X Factor audition recently went viral.
Chris’ original single ‘My Heart Belongs to You’ - which did not achieve UK chart success when released in 2013 - has this week made it to number 16 in the Japanese charts.
The news comes after Chris, from Kirkdale, starred in a one-hour documentary for Japanese channel Fuji TV which charted his rise to fame.
The documentary was aired after a video of his nervous X Factor audition went viral in Japan.
Speaking exclusively to the ECHO, Chris revealed he ‘couldn’t believe’ his song was now popular in Japan - and that he even plans to learn the language.
He said: “It’s just unbelieveable. I can’t believe it. Fuji TV, who I did the documentary for, emailed my agent to tell her that my single was at number 16. It’s crazy.
“The video of my audition went viral and I’ve been getting tons of tweets from Japan.
“When the video of my audition got posted on Facebook in Japan I was getting thousands of tweets a day.”
