The 93rd Academy Awards' nominations were revealed on Monday 15th March 2021 with Kilkenny's Cartoon Saloon feature 'WolfWalkers' being put forward in the Best Animated Feature category.
For the first time, two women have been nominated for best director: Chloé Zhao for Nomadland and Emerald Fennell (who plays Camilla Parker Bowles in The Crown) for Promising Young Woman.
They will compete against Thomas Vinterberg (“Another Round”), David Fincher (“Mank”) and Lee Isaac Chung (“Minari”).
Kilkenny-based Cartoon Saloon has been put forward for Best Animated Feature.
This is the South East animation studios fifth nomination at the Oscars and sees them up against Pixar's Soul.
The Academy Awards this year will take place on 25th April from multiple locations due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
“In this unique year that has asked so much of so many, the Academy is determined to present an Oscars like none other, while prioritizing the public health and safety of all those who will participate,” a spokesperson for the Academy told Variety. “To create the in-person show our global audience wants to see, while adapting to the requirements of the pandemic, the ceremony will broadcast live from multiple locations, including the landmark Dolby Theatre.”
