A Garda has been arrested as part of an investigation into the alleged sending of letters containing false allegations against members of the force.
The man in his 20s is being questioned at a Garda station in Tipperary, having already been suspended from duty.
He's since been released without charge and a file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
It's as a row continues between middle-ranking Gardaí and the government over the extended powers given to the Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission under the forthcoming Policing and Security Bill.
Members of the Association of Garda Sergeants and Inspectors told Justice Minister Helen McEntee last week at their conference in Killarney, that the new powers aren't justified, and will encroach on the rights of gardaí as citizens.
