Sinn Fein's calling for drivers to be given an extension to get their NCT test for the next six months.
There's little availability for testing in February and March at many centres due to workers being absent due to Covid.
Extensions were given to motorists earlier in the pandemic which is now causing a backlog.
"It was very alarming that there are so many people that are waiting to get their cars tested at NCT centres that can't get them done, and the huge backlog that has built up because of the absenteeism" says Sinn Fein Deputy Martin Kenny, who is concerned over the delays for drivers in getting their NCT.
"It's the same in a lot of industries, COVID has had a huge impact on our economy after the last two years, and because of that of course there is a huge backlog built up."
