The Irish Cancer Society has benefitted from one Wexford man's enormous generosity in death.
The Charity was left €1 million in an Enniscorthy man's will, after he passed away in 2018.
The ICS first found about about the gesture by the man - who is known by the charity but whose identity hasn't been disclosed to respect his privacy -later that year. The huge donation included a €50,000 cash gift.
A spokesperson for the charity said that the donor had never married and was preceded by his parents and siblings. He was a retired accounts manager who had been living in a nursing home in Dublin for some time.
They also confirmed the donation - totalling €1.039 million - were made without restrictions, and used to fund a number of services for the charity, that saw the cancellation of its Daffodil Day fundraiser severely impact on finances.
The Irish Cancer Society wasn't the only charity that benefitted from this Enniscorthy-native's generosity, with the majority of his estate split across five charities, however, the identity of the other four are unknown.
