Hygiene specialists are warning that people are not aware of the risks posed by bacteria spreading on door handles.
Initial Hygiene says they are acting as a hotspot for the spread of bacteria, due to the amount of different people touching them each day.
A recent survey by the company found that almost half of people in Ireland prefer not using soap when hand-washing.
Meanwhile, 90% admit they don't spend the recommended 20 seconds washing their hands.
