Fundraiser launched for Carlow family who lost home in devastating fire

A GoFundMe page has been set up for a Carlow family who lost their home in a devastating fire.

The Collier family from St. Mullins are said to have been left "devastated" when a blaze broke out in their home on November 4th last when nobody was at home.

Unfortunately for the family, their house insurance policy had lapsed before the fire, meaning the family have no means of recouping their loss. Tragically, parents Geraldine and John Collier weren't aware their insurance had expired until they called their house insurance provider following the fire.

The fundraiser, which has been set up by Alanah Hayden has so far raised over €12,000 out of a €100,000 goal.

According to their GoFundMe page, the fire "started at the back of the house, but it wasn't long before the blaze made its way through every room, taking with it the memories, keepsakes and treasures the family had collected over the years."

The post continued: "Anyone who knows Don or Geraldine will be familiar with their caring, compassionate and generous nature. They are always first to reach out in tragedy and are known widely for their willingness to help others. Now it's our turn to show our support and get behind this family so they can begin to rebuild their lives."

Many have taken to the GoFundMe page to express their upset at the family's awful situation. One relation said: "We were so sad to hear this terrible news. All your cousins in the USA are praying for you."

Another commented: "Thinking of you all. May God give you the strength to get through this. Sending hugs and our love."
